Color Usage Rules

Every color has a role. These rules keep the palette consistent across the whole experience and prevent off-brand drift.

— Slate Blue Rule
#4A6274 is the system primary. Use it for buttons, headings, links, icons, and trust signals — every text size passes AA on cream (7.2:1) and on white (5.9:1). Always pair with white text when used as a background.
— Rich Brown Rule
#6E4412 is the warm accent. Use for eyebrows, section labels, italic callouts, and ornamental flourishes. Not for body text — contrast fails at small sizes. Use sparingly.
— Sandstone Rule
#D4C5A9 is a surface color only. Use for cards, testimonials, and warm section backgrounds. Never use as text — it won't pass contrast on any background.
— Sage Rule
#7A8B6F is the success color. Reserve it exclusively for confirmation states — "Estimate sent", "Inspector approved", form success. Not decorative.
— Charcoal Rule
#2C2C2C is the default body text color on warm white. Also the dark section background (hero, footer). Never use as an accent — keep it as the workhorse.
— Warm White Rule
#FAF6EF is the default page background. Warmer than pure white so photos of wood and natural materials feel at home. Never use as text.

Type System

Three typefaces: Playfair Display for character and warmth, Inter for clarity and readability, Montserrat for bold CTAs that drive action.

Bernier — Regular (used), Distressed (available for ornament)
Use for: the logo mark only — primary lockup, horizontal lockup, monogram, brand hero callouts
Character: Vintage display serif, craftsman heritage — the voice of the brand mark itself. Never use in body copy or UI.
Display Headings Playfair Display
Your Floor.
Your Home. Our Craft.

Playfair Display — weights 400, 500, 600, 700 + italic variants
Use for: H1–H4, section titles, blockquotes, testimonial pull quotes, hero headlines
Character: Warm, editorial, craftsman — evokes heritage and quality without feeling old-fashioned
Body UI Inter

Serving the Columbus metro, Johnstown, and surrounding Central Ohio communities.
Inter — weights 400, 500, 600, 700
Use for: body copy, form labels, navigation, captions, metadata, UI components
Character: Neutral, highly readable at all sizes — keeps content scannable and professional

Type Scale

Fluid type scale from caption to hero. Use these sizes consistently to maintain visual hierarchy.

Token Size Weight Line Height Font Usage
--font-hero Tee's Flooring 400 1.05 Bernier Brand mark only — hero wordmark, logo lockups
--text-hero 4rem / 64px 400–700 1.1 Playfair Display Hero headlines, landing page H1
--text-section 2.5rem / 40px 400–600 1.2 Playfair Display Section titles, page H2
--text-card 1.5rem / 24px 400–600 1.3 Playfair Display Card titles, H3, subsections
--text-body 1.125rem / 18px 400–500 1.75 Inter Body paragraphs, descriptions
--text-small 0.875rem / 14px 400–600 1.6 Inter Captions, metadata, helper text
--text-label 0.75rem / 12px 600–700 1.4 Inter / Montserrat Eyebrows, tags, UI labels

Font Pairing Rules

Three fonts do specific jobs. Never swap their roles — the whole system depends on consistent pairing.

— Playfair Display Rule
Playfair Display is headlines only. H1, H2, H3, editorial pull-quotes, hero taglines. Never for body, UI labels, or buttons — the high contrast serifs break down at small sizes and feel out of place in interactive contexts.
— Inter Rule
Inter is the body workhorse. Paragraphs, lists, captions, metadata, descriptions, form helper text. Never use for headlines — it's too quiet. Default weight 400, emphasis 600.
— Montserrat Rule
Montserrat is for CTAs, buttons, uppercase eyebrows, and chip labels. Geometric and authoritative. Never for body copy — the wide letterforms slow reading. Always pair with uppercase + letter-spacing on labels.
— Bernier Rule
Bernier is reserved for the logo mark only. Wordmark, horizontal lockup, monogram. Never use in body copy, headlines, or UI — it's the logo's voice, not the brand's.

LVT vs. Hardwood: Choosing the Right Floor for Your Central Ohio Home

Every home is different — and so is every floor. After 20 years installing flooring across Columbus, Johnstown, and the surrounding communities, we've developed strong opinions about what works. Here's our honest take on two of the most popular choices.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) — The Practical Champion

LVT has come a long way. Today's products are nearly indistinguishable from real wood or stone, and they outperform both in a number of real-world scenarios:

  • 100% waterproof — ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements
  • Stands up to pets, kids, and high foot traffic
  • Floats over most existing floors — reducing demolition costs
  • Excellent for Central Ohio's temperature swings (it won't cup or warp)

"We replaced our entire first floor with LVT and it transformed the house. Tee walked us through every option and didn't oversell us on anything we didn't need."

— Sarah M., Westerville OH · LVT Installation 2024

Hardwood — When Nothing Else Will Do

For buyers who want genuine hardwood, we respect that choice. Real wood adds character, warmth, and provable resale value. It requires more care — proper acclimation, subfloor prep, humidity control — but done right, it lasts generations.

  1. Choose engineered hardwood for most Central Ohio conditions (better moisture stability)
  2. Allow 72 hours of acclimation before installation begins
  3. Maintain 35–55% relative humidity year-round for longevity

Not sure which is right for your project? Book a free in-home estimate and we'll bring samples for both so you can see them in your actual space.

08 · Buttons

Button System

Four variants with scaleX slide-fill hover animation. All use Montserrat for CTA authority. All have focus states for accessibility.

Primary — Slate Blue → Deep Slate slide. One per CTA cluster. Secondary — Outlined slate → slate fill. Paired with Primary for dual-CTA patterns. Accent — Charcoal → Slate Blue slide. Trust-building contexts, secondary actions. Ghost — Transparent → Slate Blue fill. Low-emphasis tertiary actions.

Button Usage Rules

Hierarchy matters. Only one primary action per view — the rest are supporting.

— Primary Rule
One per view. The most important action — "Get Estimate", "Book Consultation", "Request Samples". If you have two primaries, one of them isn't really primary.
— Secondary Rule
Supporting actions that live alongside the primary — "See Gallery", "View Services", "Learn More". Outlined or filled-surface. Never more visually heavy than the primary.
— Ghost Rule
Tertiary, low-emphasis actions — "Cancel", "Back", "Skip", inline nav links. Use when the visual weight of a button would be too loud.
— Label Rule
Button labels are verbs, not nouns. "Get Estimate" not "Estimate". Keep them 1–3 words. Always use Montserrat SemiBold uppercase with letter-spacing.
